Everybody pretty much knows how beneficial it is to give and receive hugs. Science has proven that giving hugs lowers your blood pressure, lowers cortisol levels, and gets oxytocin flowing in the body.
But sometimes it’s very important to give ourselves hugs as a healthy way to remind ourselves of just how much we deserve to be congratulated just for being who we are.
Self-hugging is a wonderful way of reminding myself that there really is no way I can accomplish all my goals on my own. Sometimes I forget that.
It’s a great way to relieve some of the megatons of pressure I put on myself to be, do, and perform perfectly each day. Hugging myself reminds me that I don’t have to be perfect all the time.
It also reminds me that all the love, strength and comfort I need already lives inside me and that even if I am alone, I don’t have to feel alone.
It is very healing. And also a lot of fun! It’s so much fun to hug myself and make a silly face while I’m at it. It’s like a tidal wave of positivity overcomes my whole being and gives me an energy boost to work harder each day.
Try it. I dare you.
